Karkala Teru – 2010 – by Swaroopa Shenoy

Rama Navami Rathotsava – Shri Ramanjaneya Temple – Vile Parle

Radio Idli spent a memorable week leading to the 75th Rama Navami celebrations at Shri Ramanjaneya Devasthana, Vile Parle. The temple is one of the oldest Saraswat Temples in Mumbai, founded by a Great Saint Shri Laxminarayan Maharaj. The temple today continues to be looked after by the sons of this great family, and has an annual Teru (rathotsava) much to the delight of Rama Devotees beyond even our community. Bantwal Teru 2009 by Dr. Kiran Baliga

Dr. Kiran Baliga, continues his holy service of last year, brings to us yet again, glimpses of the Teru of Bantwal. Rathotsavas , Chariot festivals or Car festivals as we may call it with different names. Sri Sharada Mahotsav is celebrated during Navaratri by the GSB’s of Mangalore at the Acharya Math premises, which is situated inside the Sri Venkataramana Temple complex, Car Steet, Mangalore. This festival has been celebrated with religious fervour and devotion by our samaj bandhavas for the last 85 years. The 2007 Sri Sharada Mahotsav was the 85th year of the celebrations.
On the evening of the fourth day of Navaratri, the clay icon of the goddess is brought in a procession for installation at the Acharya Math premises.

Swaroopa Shenoy from bangalore, brings to us a magical photographic experience of an age old festival of GSBs – The Karkala Teru. Karkala, as most of us know, is one of our prime cultural centers. It is known for its Venkataramana Temple, fondly called as Padu-Tirupathi.
Karkala is also a home and place of origin of many luminaries in our community, including the great Renjal Gopal Shenoy-maam, one of the greatest sculptors ever born.

Kodial Theru 2008

The famous ‘Mangalore Car Festival’ or ‘Kodial Theru” was celebrated with gaiety and devotion on February 13, 2008.
Ratharohan or ascending the chariot was held at 6.00p.m., and the Grand Chariot was drawn little after mid night.

Idols of Lord Venkateshwara(Vishnu) and Goddess Padmavathi(Lakshmi) ascended the ‘Brahma Ratha’ or ‘Big Theru’ at Godhooli Lagnam in the evening at Temple Square in front of the Venkatramana Temple in Car Street.
