Konkani Sammelan 2012 – Kids Camp

“2012 Konkani Kids Camp” – Hospitality Committee had arranged a camp run by an accredited local YMCA. This was an opportunity for the kids to have his/her own special Sammelan experience, just a few feet away having fun, making new Konkani friends from all over USA and Canada. This camp also gave the kids, m a sense of independence, and nurtured the community spirit “Heart to Heart – home away from home”. We present some classic Konkani songs that were used to bring children closer to their home, their culture and their language.

We would like to introduce here the proactive people behind the event:

Dr. Shaila Nayak is the Chairperson of the Hospitality Committee. Shaila is alumnus of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (AIIMS). After a stint over 30 years as Patholgist and Blood Bank Director in New Jersey Hospitals, Shaila decided to take it easy as Consultant to a Medical Analysis Lab, and to a Hospital in New Jersey. She is presently living in Mays Landing, NJ with her husband Vasudev Nayak. Their two daughters and a son are settled in different parts of U S whom they keep visiting often and spend time with their 7 grandchildren.

Vidya Nayak lives in Flanders, New Jersey. Married to Ravi Nayak. Mother of Two and grandmother of one. Works in Local Government as Chief Financial Officer. She is co-chair of Hospitality committee and happy to be part of Konkani Sammelan 2012.

Poornima Kamath is the co-chair of Hospitality Committee. Poornima was born and brought up in Mangalore. Poornima completed her Bachelors in Business Management and Law from Mangalore University. Poornima also completed her MBA from University of Phoenix. Currently working at IEEE Poornima is married to Gurudatt Kamath and has 2 daughters, Preethi and Naina.
